Over the years R&M Lighting has developed a reputation for excellence within the street lighting, signage and highway electrical industry. This is reflected by our loyal client base, that regularly provide us with repeat business. We believe that the key to our success is, and always has been, building and nurturing strong relationships with our customers. Both on and off site we pride ourselves on being the contractor that is willing to go that extra mile. This ethos has paid dividends time and time again.
The R&M Lighting we know today was originally founded by our Operations Director Rob Woolcock and our Managing Director Steve Buxton in 1995. We are based in Maidenhead, Berkshire, with a satellite depot in Reading. Ideally located for works in the south-east of the country. However, over the years we have grown and have had to travel further afield to maintain momentum and now cover the whole of the country.
Due to the founders skills, we immediately specialised in external highway lighting. Including everything from its supply and installation to routine and planned maintenance. In the late 1990s, we expanded our portfolio to encompass public realm & amenity lighting, and the installation of street furniture including signs, bollards, beacons and all associated electrical work.
In 2008 we diversified further creating a Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) department (under the name R&M Green Energy Solutions Ltd) to offer a complete range of M&E services to commercial and domestic clients. With the proliferation of environmental awareness, this area has expanded rapidly to include the supply and installation of renewable energy products such as solar panels and ground source heating.
Since early 2015, we have been working towards our NERS accreditation. We are now able to act as an ICP (Independent Connection Provider) and can offer our customers mains disconnections, transfers and connections. This creates large financial savings for our clients and a viable alternative to what was a monopoly held by the various DNOs. Beyond the financial savings, as an Independent Connections Provider, our clients no longer have to rely on DNO availability for essential work to begin. Making R&M Lighting the one stop shop for all highway electrical requirements.
In addition to our traditional highway electrical services and new ICP service, for the last few years, we have also been able to offer car charging station installation. We see this as a major growth field that complements our range of other services. Our early entry into this market has meant that R&M Lighting is able to offer unrivalled expertise in this area. We have all the skills and contacts necessary to see any car charging installation project through from concept to completion.
As the old adage goes a company is only as good as its staff. With this in mind, we pride ourselves on having a self-motivated and multi-skilled workforce in excess of 40 people. All of our employees undertake extensive training, performed in accordance with NHSS and the Highways Electrical Registration Scheme. Our directors are renowned for closely monitoring on-site activity, ensuring that all work is completed to exacting standards with an impeccable safety record.
In addition to our standard supply and installation contracts, we can also deliver high volume installation only contracts on time and to budget which is something that many of our competitors struggle to do effectively. We have significant experience in labour only support to major contractors on Private Finance Initiatives (PFIs) and large LED replacement schemes.
Due to consistent growth since 1995, we have the ability to tender for contracts ranging from £2,000 to £2,000,000 across the whole of England. So whether it be a small junction to relight, a completely new road to build or an entire LED replacement scheme to undertake, make R&M lighting your first choice.
